The .fb2 file format
FB2 or FictionBook 2.0 file format is an ebook format created in Russia to simplify conversion of fictional books into different formats. It is an open source software program created under DRM which can copy and forward files with minimal restrictions. FB2 contains a single XML file compared with other ebook formats (with multiple XML files) and is often associated with fiction eBooks. There are no limits placed on the textual content that can appear in the FB2 format.

Rather than concentrate on the way a document appears, FictionBook deals with its structure. It has particular tags for epigraphs, verses and quotations. Metadata related to the ebook such as author name, title and publisher are also presented within the file, increasing the convenience in ebook management, and conversion to other formats. Simple files can be located at the start of the FB2 file, while larger data such as images are placed at the end to enable the user download with minimal complications.
